In het weekend van 1 en 2 november heeft Linksjugend [‘solid], de jongerenorganisatie van de Duitse partij Die Linke, een resolutie getiteld ‘we mogen nooit zwijgen wanneer we geconfronteerd worden met genocide’ aangenomen. Deze resolutie veroordeelde het koloniale karakter van de Israëlische staat, haar apartheidsbeleid en de genocide in Gaza. Daarnaast werd er opgeroepen tot het steunen van het Palestijnse recht op terugkeer en nationale bevrijding. Hiermee bekritiseerde Linksjugend zichzelf en Die Linke voor hun passieve houding op dit onderwerp. 70% van de aanwezigen stemde voor deze resolutie.
Sinds de resolutie is aangenomen is Linksjugend belaagd door de Duitse media en zelfs door belangrijke leden van haar eigen moederpartij. Er zijn tientallen artikelen verschenen die de jongeren beschuldigen van antisemitisme. Partijprominenten van Die Linke gaan volledig mee in de smaadcampagne. De twee partijleiders hebben zich openbaar gedistantieerd van de jongerenorganisatie en 17 parlementsleden van Die Linke hebben een verklaring ondertekend waarin ze oproepen tot consequenties voor de jongeren.
Duitse politieke steun voor het zionistische project en de genocide in Gaza wordt alleen overtroffen door de Verenigde Staten. Partijen van rechts tot links en vrijwel alle Duitse media schilderen elke kritiek op Israël af als antisemitisch. De gaande genocide wordt gerechtvaardigd en gebagatelliseerd. Linksjugend, de grootste socialistische organisatie van Duitsland na Die Linke, heeft hier nu mee gebroken en een standvastige positie van socialistisch internationalisme ingenomen. De RSP en ROOD steunen deze positie en staan in solidariteit met Linksjugend tegen de belaging van de Duitse media aan haar eigen moederpartij.
Socialisten behoren zich ten allen tijde te organiseren en op te staan tegen racisme en kolonialisme. We prijzen Linksjugend voor het maken van deze stap terwijl zelfs haar moederpartij dit niet aandurft. De strijd voor een vrij Palestina is een van de belangrijkste strijdtonelen van de internationale arbeidersklasse tegen imperialisme. Het is essentieel dat socialistische organisaties zich hiervoor inzetten.

On the weekend of the first and second of November, Linksjugend [‘solid], the youth organization of the German party Die Linke, adopted a resolution titled “We should never remain silent when confronted with genocide.” This resolution condemned the colonial character of the Israeli state, its apartheid policies, and the genocide in Gaza. It also called for support for the Palestinian right of return and national liberation. In doing so, Linksjugend criticized itself and Die Linke for their passive stance on this issue. 70% of those present voted in favor of adopting this resolution.
Since the resolution was adopted, Linksjugend has been attacked by the German media and even by important members of its own parent party. Dozens of articles have been published accusing the young people of anti-Semitism. Prominent members of Die Linke are fully participating in the smear campaign. The two party leaders have publicly distanced themselves from the youth organization, and 17 members of parliament from Die Linke have signed a statement calling for consequences for the young people.
German political support for the zionist project and the genocide in Gaza is surpassed only by that of the United States. Parties from right to left and virtually all German media portray any criticism of Israel as anti-Semitic. The ongoing genocide is justified and trivialized. Linksjugend, Germany’s largest socialist organization after Die Linke, has now broken with this and taken a firm position of socialist internationalism. The RSP and ROOD support this position and stand in solidarity with Linksjugend against the German media’s attacks on its own parent party.
Socialists must organize and stand up against racism and colonialism at all times. We commend Linksjugend for taking this step when even its parent party does not dare to do so. The struggle for a free Palestine is one of the most important battlegrounds of the international working class against imperialism. It is essential that socialist organizations commit themselves to this cause.
